I don't know if that makes me a bad fan. I do have a headcanon, I do! But when it comes to reading, I'm very open minded, and I can enjoy a story even if it's not quite how I think of a character in the first place.

Still! Fun doing this, which was the point of doing it. :)

I would do this, too, but I have the memory of a goldfish and if I were asked to recall more than 10 works of fanfic in the past 10 years, I'd overheat.

Your headcanon sounds like mine!

I'm the same way with Remus/Sirius. Sometimes they get together at Hogwarts and it's all peachy or sometimes it's rocky. And sometimes Sirius doesn't believe that Remus is the spy...but other time he does. And it causes a drift between them...but sometimes it doesn't lol. Or you know..sometimes Sirius dies...but most of the the time he lives to raise Teddy (the reasons why Teddy exists are uber varied lol).

Oh yeah, we're in the same boat them. We'd buy anything! LOL But it's fluid, yeah?

I agree with you, or more precisely, my headcanon agree with yours…there are so much things with excellently written fics that just made us wholly intrigued and goggly-eyed even when it wasn’t the usual characteristic we quite agree/appreciate. I was quite surprised by Transfiguration by Resonant when I read it, my first impression: Draco was too friendly, too happy, too OOC, but then the writing was engaging and Harry was brooding all over the place so I read, and read, and read, and found myself sold on this version of this Draco; because you know, the point of fanfiction is to explore the ‘what ifs’ of canon [much like the Aus of canon I think], including the growth of character cus come on, JKR gave Draco those snippet of redemption and left us with just-a-glance Draco bit for epilogue [tho it was made for ficcing ;)] …i read that after A Thousand Beautiful Things by Geoviki and her fic pretty much shaped my headcanon Draco back then, with that haughty attitude but very redeemable quality. So yeah, pretty shocked but I think now my headcanon are combinations of all things from fics which left rather unforgettable impression on me:D

After so much time reading fics I think my headcanon are all over the place too. I used to be squicked by mpreg because of my traumatic experience with some badfic who treated as if male pregnancy is commonly usual phenomena O_o but H/D cured it, and It was because there are some awesome fic written by great author whose works I can always trust [and because the magic of course], and I still enjoy it even in SPN and Merlin fandom.

And I found I got attached with writers who got their characters insistently stable so they write insistently great fics, there are so much name and mostly they’re n your recs: saras-girl, sara holmes, oldenuf2nb, taradiane, femme&noeon, libby drew, lettered, bryoneybrynn, tracyloowho&starlitshore [tracyloowho is one of my fave writer on SPN Fandom too], dysonrules, icmezzo, faithwood, mahaliem, brummel, rurounihime, lamerezouile, and others like megyal, corvidae, wholahoop, birdsofshore, dracogotgame, romaine, akahannah, maya (this girl is like, inaugurator to the Wittiest H/D Permit or somethin), mijeli, kinkykneazle, calrissian18, wendypops, jakuako, zionstarfish, aja, mirabella, jad, pir8fancier, blamebrampton, olimakiella, fireflavored, …

The ones that I wished wrote more like frostywonder and ignatiustrout and dolimir[I seriously adore this girl, guh did you read Draco Malfoy, King of the House Elves? So many feels ~_~] .----wow, I’m being massively nostalgic here, and it got reaaaaaly long but still, im feeling like I forgot tons of awesome author…. GUH IT MAKE ME REMEMBER ALL THE CLASSICS *pulls hair*…

And im essaying to you at this point but those authors shaped my headcanon with the power of their words…So that my headcanon pretty much fluid, and im quite open to characterization bcos character-growth can get to many directions, but in the core they’re still Harry and Draco that we love.

I’m better ending it here, phew, it make me remember all the goods fics in fandom, and I feel like my brain overloaded…♥_♥

And, yes to all that! There are stories that have marked me as a reader, and the characterisations in them have shaped my headcanon.

*nods* A lot of the stories listed on this list were some the first Harry/Draco stories I read, and even years after, I realise they've shaped me. I've discovered many stories that definitely fit with my headcanon, but those first fics you read, those are the first impression you get, and they stay with you, you know?

Others are newer but I know I'll never forget. And there is the all time favourite list I have in my head, and it includes every one of the authors you mentioned and more. I've been tempted many times to make a list with all the stories I've loved and I never want to forget, but it's be an endless list, so much talent, so many stories! It's simply impossible.

Making this list was hard, because I wanted to include every fic that fit a description, but that would be another endless list, still. Good stories to share! <3

Oh god this list will be the death of me. I already saved "On A Clear Day" by Sara's Girl to my folder to read this evening. The head canon was too tempting. I love reading fics with an emotionally or physically hurt Harry. But all the other head canons of yours sound great, too. I guess I have to read all of the fics. lol

LOL! They really did in that one didn't they! I was looking to go a little dark and highlight the difference between perception and reality :-) Glad that the memory of it makes it worth mentioning as a singular example of a rough start :-)

I remember when I read your story the first time; that was it for me. That's how I thought it would be, it would be hard for them at the beginning, because of their inability to communicate, because they would be hurting still, because of their past holding them back, but they would find a way.

So yes, it's definitely my head-canon for a rocky start.
