Harry & Draco head!canon!
Ever since [livejournal.com profile] eidheann_writes made her post about The Formation of head-canon, I've been thinking about it and wanting to do my own post.

The thing is, like hers, my head-canon is very fluid.

I do have my own personal ideas of how Harry and Draco are, they would act and even look, but the bottom line is, if a story is well written, I enjoy it even if I don't fundamentally believe Harry and Draco grew up to be that way, you know?

I like not having a specific, clear-cut, precise headcanon for Harry and Draco. I feel it gives me liberty to enjoy different characterisations of them and love them because of the story I'm being told.

So, for the most part, I tend to believe Harry and Draco are this way or that way, except when I don't.

Continuing with [livejournal.com profile] birdsofshore's Rectober Celebration, this post comes with Recs.

My headcanon Draco is a bit broken Post-war, he's down on his luck but still a bit prickly:

The Shoemaker and the Elves by [livejournal.com profile] icmezzo
Draco, The Magic Dragon by [livejournal.com profile] libby_drew
Every You, Every Me by [livejournal.com profile] daftfear
Some Kind Of Wonderful by [livejournal.com profile] taradiane

My headcanon Harry definitely has issues Post war, and he needs help:

On A Clear Day by [livejournal.com profile] saras_girl
Ain't No Friend Of Mine by [livejournal.com profile] lettered
Holly and Hawthorn, Thistle and Thyme by [livejournal.com profile] bryoneybrynn
A Piercing Comfort by [livejournal.com profile] talithan
But, In Dreams by [livejournal.com profile] kedavranox
Prickles On The Outside by [livejournal.com profile] curia_regis

Except when he's a confident and a brilliant Auror:

When Hearts Are Freed by [livejournal.com profile] oldenuf2nb
Luck of the Devil by [livejournal.com profile] melusinahp

And Harry is definitely well hung:

Big Dick, Come Quick by [livejournal.com profile] calanthe_fics
Damned If You Do... by [livejournal.com profile] tigersilver

But he's a bit of a fashion disaster:

This Summer by [livejournal.com profile] saras_girl

Also, my headcanon Harry is great with children:

Cupid by [livejournal.com profile] cutecoati

Except when he isn't:

A Matter of PreText, ConText, and Misconceptions by [livejournal.com profile] laciudad

I think Draco always knew he was gay, or at least he was aware of his feelings for Harry:

Fool Rushes In by [livejournal.com profile] oldenuf2nb
Hissy Fit by [livejournal.com profile] dysonrules
Four Paper Dragons by [livejournal.com profile] tracy_loo_who & [livejournal.com profile] starlitshore
Small Spaces and Pantsless Potters by [livejournal.com profile] badjujuboo

Sometimes he's even obsessed, though he justifies this with Draco!Logic:

Why Draco Malfoy Failed His Sixth Year by [livejournal.com profile] faithwood
Being Jessie Carmichael (Or How to Woo Harry Potter in Three Hours) by [livejournal.com profile] faithwood
How to Shag Your Most Hated Enemy ...and Still Feel Alright About it, You Know, Morally Speaking by [livejournal.com profile] stellabelle
The Simple Joy of Living by [livejournal.com profile] mahaliem

Except when he is in total denial about the whole thing:

One Harry Potter, Please (If Possible, Seduced and Ready) by [livejournal.com profile] faithwood
Before We Get Too Old by [livejournal.com profile] tracy_loo_who &[livejournal.com profile] starlitshore
What's New, Buenos Aires? by [livejournal.com profile] kedavranox

I think Harry was taken by surprise once he figured it out:

Legs of Distraction (Or How Draco Got Promoted Three and A Half Separate Times) by [livejournal.com profile] olimakiella
Master Work by [livejournal.com profile] mahaliem
The Incredible Race by [livejournal.com profile] dysonrules
Stain of Silence by [livejournal.com profile] brummell

And sometimes it was the hardest thing for him to accept it:

The Perfect Husband by [livejournal.com profile] curlee_cue

The boys might have a rocky start, but their relationship blooms:

Ask Again Later by [livejournal.com profile] sara_holmes
To Create A Life by [livejournal.com profile] ravenpan
The Arrangement Series by [livejournal.com profile] rurounihime
It Never Occurred to Me That I Would Fall in Love With a Frenchman by [livejournal.com profile] lamerezouille

Except when they have a really rocky start:

The Third by [livejournal.com profile] samaelthekind

And they have to work very hard through their issues to make it work:

My Own Worst Enemy by [livejournal.com profile] dysonrules
A Hundred Visions and Revisions by [livejournal.com profile] oflights
Unkissed Kisses and Songs Never Sung by [livejournal.com profile] femmequixotic
A Day at the Park by [livejournal.com profile] taradiane
“I’d Rather Change Nappies Than Have My Cock Sucked” and Other Ravings of a Pregnant Wizard by [livejournal.com profile] frayach

Mpreg happens. Oh yes. For reasons, okay?:

I prefer pregnant Draco:
The Blame Game by [livejournal.com profile] eidheann_writes
If Wishes Were Children by [livejournal.com profile] oldenuf2nb
Delaney by [livejournal.com profile] rurounihime
The Curse by [livejournal.com profile] roedhunt
Some Kind Of Wonderful by [livejournal.com profile] taradiane
Yours, Bunny-eared, and Candy-sweet by PaolaAdara

Except when Harry gets pregnant:
Bloodsquib by [livejournal.com profile] vaysh11
The Silent World Within You by [livejournal.com profile] femmequixotic & [livejournal.com profile] noeon
Labour of Love by [livejournal.com profile] coffeejunkii
One of Your Fathers by [livejournal.com profile] dacro And various other authors, as they follow on the story link.

And yeah, sometimes they are part creature (It happens, too!):

Specially Draco being part Veela:
The Weight of Eternity by [livejournal.com profile] envy_venis
The Ugly Duckling by [livejournal.com profile] icmezzo

Except when Harry is part Veela:
High Priced by [livejournal.com profile] dysonrules

Or when Harry or Draco were turned into a werewolf:

Harry:
Burning the Ground by [livejournal.com profile] traintracks
The Arc of the Pendulum by [livejournal.com profile] brummell

Draco:
Savage by [livejournal.com profile] marguerite_26

Or Both:
Rejoicing in Their Strength & sequel Eyes That Can See in the Dark
I Was A Teenage Werewolf! by [livejournal.com profile] treacle_tartlet

And if they did marry other people, they found a way to each other in the end:

Turn by [livejournal.com profile] saras_girl
Players by [livejournal.com profile] ishafel
Homecoming by [livejournal.com profile] novembersnow
Father Of The Bride by [livejournal.com profile] novembersnow

Please check for warnings on the stories linked above!

So yeah, my head canon is all over the place, I admit. :D

Wow. This entry ended up taking entirely too long to write. XD Now I want to do this FanArt. Oh, that'll be fun!

Never read anything by Sara's Girl, but this fic realy was amazing! I liked everything about it. Next will be "Luck of the Devil" by melusinahp because I love me some confident Auror!Harry. :D

You should dive into saras_girl. Her work is amazing.

If you haven't read it, you should try Alll Life is Yours to Miss, Turn (this is a 300K+ fic, but I guarantee once you start you won't stop reading it until the end, it's gorgeous) This Summer. These are beautiful. In the first Harr is much of the time paralysed by a spell, I think you should start with that one. :) But honestly, you can try anything at random and will love it.

Thanks a lot for these recs. I will read them all.

"Luck Of The Devil" was fantastic, btw. Confident!Harry in his more than sexy Auror robes does it for me every time. This also had a very hot dynamic between the boys, which I loved very much. The ending was great. Oh and that desk scene! Delicious!

I've read Novembersnow's "Father Of The Bride" and I really, really liked it! One of the things I love reading about is when the boys are in their thirties to forties. I mean, Head Auror Harry Potter, age 47, having so much experience and looking really mature. I love that. Lol And Draco, too, of course. I loved the whole premise of that fic.

I love reading stories when they are all grown up and mature, too. I keep telling you, those fics by saras_girl have beautiful, mature, characterisations. :) But

But then, any of the fics I listed above would be part of my all time fave list if I ever make one, so I'd rec any of those for a prime read. :D

I'm intrigued by saras_girl's fics. Right now I'm contemplating reading "All Life is Yours to Miss". But it's so long (not that I want to complain), but, at the moment, I'd like to read fics that I can read in one evening (around 30k words). I will read this one next weekend.
capitu[personal profile] capitu on October 22nd, 2013 12:14 pm (UTC)
Yes, Turn and All Life is Yours to Miss are long, but are the sort of stories that fly by because they are so well paced. When I first read Turn (that's like 400k) I was afraid to commit because I wasn't so much into super long fics, but that story taught me better. Man, the whole universe and the plot are amazing. I couldn't put it down and today is one of my all time favourites. She makes you fall in love with her characters. I'm gonna poke you for you to read All Life is Yours to Miss because it's one of her bests. :D

But I get you though, sometimes you're in the mood for something shorter. There's another by her, in which Harry loses his sight, for a while, and it's very sweet and fluffy: Talk to Me.
reijamira: [HP] Drarry glare[personal profile] reijamira on October 22nd, 2013 02:33 pm (UTC)
Well, "On A Clear Day" with its 40k words wasn't exactly short either, but once I started reading, it just went so smoothly it felt more like 20k words.

Well, now look at this: As I was reading the first lines of "Turn" yesterday it felt strangely familiar. So I went to my MUST-READ folder and had a look. And yes, there was a file I created around February this year. Someone has rec'ed this on crack_broom apparently. And because I often copy the source through which I've found a fic along with the fic itself into the Word file, I followed the link and the rec'er – it was you! :D Lol I noticed two things then:

1. This fic has been an awfully long time in my Must-Read folder now, and deserves to be read asap.

and 2. We know each other since February. This seems such a short time, I thought it had been much longer. :D

"Talk To Me" sounds great. I can read it in one evening and there seems to be a bit of hurt! or temporarily!handicapped!Harry. I think I will love this.

Well, "On A Clear Day" with its 40k words wasn't exactly short either, but once I started reading, it just went so smoothly

The same happens with All Life is Yours to Miss! There's another one here, on this headcanon list, "This summer", and with all her fics. You read and read and became lost in the story.

LOL! Yes, I recced Turn at the crack_broom this year. :D And that's how we friended each other! Wow, you're right, it's a short time but it seems we've been friends for ages. *hugs* So many stories shared. <3

Yeah, you've had it too long on your must read. read it! :D You're not going to regret it, trust me, it's such a beautiful, complete story.
reijamira: [HP] Drarry glare[personal profile] reijamira on October 22nd, 2013 06:12 pm (UTC)
OMG! I love TALK TO ME! This is like one of the best hurt!temporarily-handicapped!Harry fics I've read. It was awesome. The interaction with the mysterious Slytherin were so lovely. OMG! I think I'm in love!

"Turn" will be my weekend fic. :D

And many hugs for you, too, for being so awesome! <3
capitu[personal profile] capitu on October 22nd, 2013 06:47 pm (UTC)
I'm glad you liked them. All her stuff is brilliant. You're going to have the best weekend with Turn and when you give the other fic a try, it'll be same, you'll fall in love with it! :D

*hugs*
reijamira: [HP] Drarry glare[personal profile] reijamira on October 23rd, 2013 08:35 am (UTC)
Okay, I started "Turn" yesterday. You were too persuasive. I couldn't resist the pull any longer. :D This will take me awhile to finish. My word doc tells me it's 1.068 pages long. I'm only on page 103, where H/D attend the 19th Christmas party at the Weasley's. So far it's wonderful. It pains me a bit to see that both Harry and apparently Draco, too, are not happy with their current life. :(
capitu[personal profile] capitu on October 23rd, 2013 11:49 am (UTC)
\o/ for reading Turn!

Well, no, they aren't really happy with their real life, but they get there, they get there slowly and together. The story is a journey, of self-acceptance, and about being brave and daring to be happy, even if the way is difficult. Harry grows a lot, and he becomes such a wonderful, brave man. *sighs* There are part incredibly touching, but you'll love it. I mean, I did, love it so so much. I hope you do, too.
reijamira: [HP] Drarry glare[personal profile] reijamira on October 23rd, 2013 05:16 pm (UTC)
Holy cow in a cupboard, I have just read the scorching hot ballroom scene. You know? OMG! I didn't know Harry would be bottoming here, but the fact that he does makes it all the hotter, losing his virginity like that. My God!

Aside from that delicious scene I really love the whole fic so far. It has everything. There are a lot of witty dialogues (Lucius acid comments, those awful Celestina songs, FRANK!) but also a lot of insightful and lovely dialogues. What a brilliant fic it is so far!

I'm looking forward to find out how Harry will manage to make the Malfoy from his universe falling in love with him.

I KNOW!

It took me by surprise, too!

You're going to love the way Harry falls in love with this life, and then again when he has to come back. Man, I'm so excited for you! I think I'm going to start reading it all over again. :D
reijamira: [HP] Drarry glare[personal profile] reijamira on October 30th, 2013 10:57 am (UTC)
Oh, I'm nearly finished with Turn. Just a couple of pages left. It has been quite a journey. A wonderful fic! Full of everything and then some. :)
capitu[personal profile] capitu on October 30th, 2013 11:46 am (UTC)
I know. It's such a whole fic. I love so many things about it... it's hard to say this is my favourite bit because it's beautiful all around. A journey indeed. :)
