Harry & Draco head!canon!
Ever since [livejournal.com profile] eidheann_writes made her post about The Formation of head-canon, I've been thinking about it and wanting to do my own post.

The thing is, like hers, my head-canon is very fluid.

I do have my own personal ideas of how Harry and Draco are, they would act and even look, but the bottom line is, if a story is well written, I enjoy it even if I don't fundamentally believe Harry and Draco grew up to be that way, you know?

I like not having a specific, clear-cut, precise headcanon for Harry and Draco. I feel it gives me liberty to enjoy different characterisations of them and love them because of the story I'm being told.

So, for the most part, I tend to believe Harry and Draco are this way or that way, except when I don't.

Continuing with [livejournal.com profile] birdsofshore's Rectober Celebration, this post comes with Recs.

My headcanon Draco is a bit broken Post-war, he's down on his luck but still a bit prickly:

The Shoemaker and the Elves by [livejournal.com profile] icmezzo
Draco, The Magic Dragon by [livejournal.com profile] libby_drew
Every You, Every Me by [livejournal.com profile] daftfear
Some Kind Of Wonderful by [livejournal.com profile] taradiane

My headcanon Harry definitely has issues Post war, and he needs help:

On A Clear Day by [livejournal.com profile] saras_girl
Ain't No Friend Of Mine by [livejournal.com profile] lettered
Holly and Hawthorn, Thistle and Thyme by [livejournal.com profile] bryoneybrynn
A Piercing Comfort by [livejournal.com profile] talithan
But, In Dreams by [livejournal.com profile] kedavranox
Prickles On The Outside by [livejournal.com profile] curia_regis

Except when he's a confident and a brilliant Auror:

When Hearts Are Freed by [livejournal.com profile] oldenuf2nb
Luck of the Devil by [livejournal.com profile] melusinahp

And Harry is definitely well hung:

Big Dick, Come Quick by [livejournal.com profile] calanthe_fics
Damned If You Do... by [livejournal.com profile] tigersilver

But he's a bit of a fashion disaster:

This Summer by [livejournal.com profile] saras_girl

Also, my headcanon Harry is great with children:

Cupid by [livejournal.com profile] cutecoati

Except when he isn't:

A Matter of PreText, ConText, and Misconceptions by [livejournal.com profile] laciudad

I think Draco always knew he was gay, or at least he was aware of his feelings for Harry:

Fool Rushes In by [livejournal.com profile] oldenuf2nb
Hissy Fit by [livejournal.com profile] dysonrules
Four Paper Dragons by [livejournal.com profile] tracy_loo_who & [livejournal.com profile] starlitshore
Small Spaces and Pantsless Potters by [livejournal.com profile] badjujuboo

Sometimes he's even obsessed, though he justifies this with Draco!Logic:

Why Draco Malfoy Failed His Sixth Year by [livejournal.com profile] faithwood
Being Jessie Carmichael (Or How to Woo Harry Potter in Three Hours) by [livejournal.com profile] faithwood
How to Shag Your Most Hated Enemy ...and Still Feel Alright About it, You Know, Morally Speaking by [livejournal.com profile] stellabelle
The Simple Joy of Living by [livejournal.com profile] mahaliem

Except when he is in total denial about the whole thing:

One Harry Potter, Please (If Possible, Seduced and Ready) by [livejournal.com profile] faithwood
Before We Get Too Old by [livejournal.com profile] tracy_loo_who &[livejournal.com profile] starlitshore
What's New, Buenos Aires? by [livejournal.com profile] kedavranox

I think Harry was taken by surprise once he figured it out:

Legs of Distraction (Or How Draco Got Promoted Three and A Half Separate Times) by [livejournal.com profile] olimakiella
Master Work by [livejournal.com profile] mahaliem
The Incredible Race by [livejournal.com profile] dysonrules
Stain of Silence by [livejournal.com profile] brummell

And sometimes it was the hardest thing for him to accept it:

The Perfect Husband by [livejournal.com profile] curlee_cue

The boys might have a rocky start, but their relationship blooms:

Ask Again Later by [livejournal.com profile] sara_holmes
To Create A Life by [livejournal.com profile] ravenpan
The Arrangement Series by [livejournal.com profile] rurounihime
It Never Occurred to Me That I Would Fall in Love With a Frenchman by [livejournal.com profile] lamerezouille

Except when they have a really rocky start:

The Third by [livejournal.com profile] samaelthekind

And they have to work very hard through their issues to make it work:

My Own Worst Enemy by [livejournal.com profile] dysonrules
A Hundred Visions and Revisions by [livejournal.com profile] oflights
Unkissed Kisses and Songs Never Sung by [livejournal.com profile] femmequixotic
A Day at the Park by [livejournal.com profile] taradiane
“I’d Rather Change Nappies Than Have My Cock Sucked” and Other Ravings of a Pregnant Wizard by [livejournal.com profile] frayach

Mpreg happens. Oh yes. For reasons, okay?:

I prefer pregnant Draco:
The Blame Game by [livejournal.com profile] eidheann_writes
If Wishes Were Children by [livejournal.com profile] oldenuf2nb
Delaney by [livejournal.com profile] rurounihime
The Curse by [livejournal.com profile] roedhunt
Some Kind Of Wonderful by [livejournal.com profile] taradiane
Yours, Bunny-eared, and Candy-sweet by PaolaAdara

Except when Harry gets pregnant:
Bloodsquib by [livejournal.com profile] vaysh11
The Silent World Within You by [livejournal.com profile] femmequixotic & [livejournal.com profile] noeon
Labour of Love by [livejournal.com profile] coffeejunkii
One of Your Fathers by [livejournal.com profile] dacro And various other authors, as they follow on the story link.

And yeah, sometimes they are part creature (It happens, too!):

Specially Draco being part Veela:
The Weight of Eternity by [livejournal.com profile] envy_venis
The Ugly Duckling by [livejournal.com profile] icmezzo

Except when Harry is part Veela:
High Priced by [livejournal.com profile] dysonrules

Or when Harry or Draco were turned into a werewolf:

Harry:
Burning the Ground by [livejournal.com profile] traintracks
The Arc of the Pendulum by [livejournal.com profile] brummell

Draco:
Savage by [livejournal.com profile] marguerite_26

Or Both:
Rejoicing in Their Strength & sequel Eyes That Can See in the Dark
I Was A Teenage Werewolf! by [livejournal.com profile] treacle_tartlet

And if they did marry other people, they found a way to each other in the end:

Turn by [livejournal.com profile] saras_girl
Players by [livejournal.com profile] ishafel
Homecoming by [livejournal.com profile] novembersnow
Father Of The Bride by [livejournal.com profile] novembersnow

Please check for warnings on the stories linked above!

So yeah, my head canon is all over the place, I admit. :D

Wow. This entry ended up taking entirely too long to write. XD Now I want to do this FanArt. Oh, that'll be fun!

Re: Except When They Have a REALLY Rocky Start
Oh, yes, they did!

I remember when I read your story the first time; that was it for me. That's how I thought it would be, it would be hard for them at the beginning, because of their inability to communicate, because they would be hurting still, because of their past holding them back, but they would find a way.

So yes, it's definitely my head-canon for a rocky start.
