Question, a favour and recs.

Question: As a writer, when someone recs one of your stories, where do you rather they link the fic, to a livejournal post or to AO3 (or other fanfiction site?

I just wonder because sometimes I have more than one link and I always wonder where the author would like better.


Also, I need a favour. The thing, the hd_smoochfest's prompts are going to be up while I'm away. I'm not sure if prompting by proxy is going to be allowed, but if it is, I'm going to need someone to prompt my prompts. :/

Notes: Threesomes are generally not my thing, but this story is outstanding. The hilarity of Harry and Draco tailing Snape while he's following the lollipop lady is brilliant. And then there's the sex. HOT, okay?

Pairing: Hermione/Sirius

Summary: This is what she wants. This is what he needs.

Notes: I was going to pass this story, but then marianna_merlo recced it and I followed it, and god, it's amazing. I love it because the characters are not forced into the situation, they rather grow into them, and Hermione experiencing the rush her own power is brilliant.

Title: Pretty Please with a Ginny on Top by rickey_a
Rating: NC 17
Pairing: Harry/Ginny
Word Count: 4,500
Summary: Ginny discovers her inner 'top'.
Kink Showcased: Pegging
Notes: This pairing is, was, rather, a bit of a squick of mine (The kinky fest is throwing down all my barriers!), but the way Ginny discovers her sexuality through the story is wonderful. This story was partly inspired by this sexy drawing of reallycorking (linked on the story) and you'll see on the fic just how sexy it is to see Ginny doing just that to Harry. Delicious.

I think it's better to think what would be best for the reader to access them the easiest way possible. These days, I have a hard time getting excited about fics recced that aren't on AO3, just because right now it is really hard for me to read stories on anything but my Kindle. :(( But, like writers, readers prefer different things. If it's not to much trouble, I'd suggest just linking to as many options as you're comfortable with.

And I would gladly proxy for you if you'd like. Just tell me where and when. <333

I always think of the easier site for the reader to leave feedback, and AO3 is so user friendly with the kudos and stuff that i like it a lot, and it's so pretty with the layout and fontos that yeah, it wins, but then lj is so popular too, i wondered what the writers thought.

I don't have my stuff anywhere except LJ, so it's not an issue for me. I don't know if I am brave enough to post my writing outside of the cosy world of the LJ community.

I liked the pegging fic very much! H/G is not a pairing I enjoy, but that was great. And all the love for lollipop ladies. :D

I think AO3 is a very user-friendly forum, if you ever think of having your stories outside LJ. I like it because you can find pretty much everything that is posted on lj over there, and it's easier for longer stories, you know? I have to admit, after livejournal communities, AO3 is my second option for reading, and reccing.

In fact, when it's a long story, or a fic that is part of a series, I tend to use the AO3 link. :D

And the pegging! H/G is not my thing, I think I even told you, yeah? But that fic was awesome. And much love with the lollipop fic. Brilliant. *lol*


I'll let you know about the prompt. tjs_whatnot just offered, so I'll ask her if she's going to be around those days, but if she'll be busy or away I'm going to bother you with them, please? They're only two (I don't think we're allowed more than two -- I checked last year's prompt rules and I reckon they'll be the same this year), it doesn't say anything about prompting by proxy so I'll have to ask cheryl about it. *hugs* :)

Occasionally I do think of posting elsewhere. But I mostly write for myself and for friends, so I am not sure at the moment. AO3 does sound like the best place.

It's good to have a back up archive, I think. You start with a couple of stories and before you know it you have a whole Bookshelf full. :)

I like AO3 as both my default archive and reading space (so both as a reader and a writer). But I echo the include as many links as possible, because all readers prefer different things. I used to archive only on AO3 but because I realized some folks prefer LJ, I started the DW/LJ archive too.

Including an alternate link to the AO3 is a good idea. tjs_whatnot just said that she read there almost exclusively and I bet there are a lot of people who, like her, uses their Kindle.

I'm old school, I like saving the stories I read on word, but I can see how it's easier to have these options on AO3. :)

Plus, it's just as easy leaving feedback there. I always think of the easiest way for people to tell the authors about their work when I rec.

I read almost entirely on my phone, so no matter where it is, I'm in a browser or downloading for later reading. I like the browser best, but the phone can be with me everywhere, which is preferable to word or something for me.

I love AO3 for feedback. Random kudos on an older fic? Makes my day. I always assume that if I start to get a spate of kudos on an older fic that someone recced it somewhere (and usually wish I could find the rec to thank that person!).

I like to highlight the bits I like best, so I'm used to this on word, but AO3 is best while reading on the run.

Getting random kudos must be awesome. I always make a point of leaving kudos. <3

I like lj, just because reccing at the same site as the stiry. That being said, I personally think ao3 is better to link to than ffnet because a combination of availability of the kudos button for feedback as well as the ease of download.

ff.net is my last choice! *lol* I don't know why. Sometimes though it's the only link I find to older stories, but I prefer lj and AO3 better. I love the kudos. Now that I have an account I'm tempted to go through every fic I've left kudos as a guest and leave kudos with my name :D *is silly*

As an author, I don't have that problem because my stories are only found on LJ.

As a reccer, I tend to rec exclusively on LJ (unless the fanworks are found elsewhere) but sometimes I do remember to link to all of the platforms that the story is available.

Basically, it comes down to one thing. If the creator makes it easy for me to find their work on the other platforms I'll also rec those links. I hate looking for links.

As a reader, I've never left a comment or kudos on AO3. If possible I'll track down the story on LJ/IJ/DW (if I can find the links) and comment there (LJ being my preference).

Livejournal and AO3 are the best places these days. I love livejournal, I feel like home here, but AO3 is so easy to love, too. It has a lot of options for leaving feedback and downloading the fics. I reckon even lurkers have it easier for leaving kudos, you know?

But lj is my first option. It's a very good idea to have alternate links if one can manage. I'm a bit of a link whore fan so I reckon I'm all for that. *lol*

I also completely renovated a small scene in Paradigm that annoyed me.

So yeah, the AO3 versions are the best. I'm slowly editing the Escort series before posting them there.

Sorry took me ages, but you know I was away. All this fandom slang would confuse me too.

AO3 is a new fan site archive called Archive Of Our Own, known as AO3 for short and it's the best thing for reading fanfiction these days.

Also, prompt is what you left on a fest so others write, and prompting by proxy is someone prompting for you if you are going to be away during those days. By proximity, you can also claim by proxy if you're not going to be around when the claiming starts on a fest.

Also, I'm not sure about how writers feel about linking recs to their livejournal or the fest - if it's a fest fic - or other fanfiction archives like FF.net or AO3, but I usually just link the one I read and enjoyed... and absolutely must have in my list of recs (because I might wanna go back and read it again). I do hope it's not a big deal though because I don't want to offend anybody and always make sure credit is given to the rightful author/artist.

It's also really not that hard to google up other links to the fic. Say, in my list there is a rec linked to FF.net and the same fic could be found on lj... if there's a reader who's browsing my rec list who wants to read that fic but didn't like to read it on FF.net, there's always google. He/She could always google for other links to the same fic. That's what I do.

I mean, where I link the fics to... it's mostly a personal preference thing. I happened to find this particular fic on this particular site (I know the fic is hosted on other sites too but I found THIS ONE on THIS SITE) so I put that one in my rec list. That's it.

It doesn't seem to be a big deal where you link your recs as long as there's a way to leave feedback to the authors.

I (almost) always link to the fest post while the fest is still going on, but when it's an older fic I'm about to rec I end up with two links and well, I suppose it's a personal choice, but I like lj and AO3 best of all.

And I have to check the kinky fest as well. I'm sure I've missed some goodies by now.
